My son recently joined the Civil Air Patrol as a cadet, and we were referred to Vanguardmil.com as the only place to buy his required uniforms.

The prices are exorbitant, but Vanguard knows that they are the only supplier, so there's no need for competitive pricing as far as the company is concerned.

The website is a maze to navigate. I had to go to one page for shirts and pants, another for hats, another for patches, another for shoes, another for belts, another for name tags, and yet another for cap insignia! There is no reason that the site webmasters couldn't make a single page with a check list for male cadets, and another page with a check list for female cadets. To add to the confusion, there are items listed on the CAP clothing pages that are NOT part of the CAP required uniforms. For example, why have white dress shirts on the CAP page when the CAP manual clearly states that all dress shirts must be blue?

My son is very excited to join the Civil Air Patrol, especially since his high school doesn't have a JROTC program. It's a shame that we must use Vanguardmil for his uniform needs.

I feel bad for the active military members that may have to use Vanguard for their spare uniforms!
