Früher blickten wir am Hafen sehnsüchtig den Kreuzfahrtschiffen hinterher und wünschten uns ein Gast auf dem Schiff zu sein. Woher die ganzen Schiffe kamen und wohin sie fuhren blieb meist unbekannt. Man verfolgte die Schiffe mit bloßem Auge, bis sie am Horizont verschwunden sind. Danach waren die Schiffe für das menschliche Auge zwar nicht mehr sichtbar, jedoch hatte sie das Schiffsradar fest auf dem Radarschirm. Vor einigen Jahren war das Schiffsradar noch ein gut gehütetes Geheimnis und nicht jeder hatte Zugriff auf die Daten. Es konnten also nur wenige Menschen Schiffe verfolgen und die aktuellen Schiffspositionen ermitteln. Zum Glück haben wir heutzutage die Möglichkeit, per Mausklick weltweit alle Schiff mit dem Schiffsradar zu orten und zu verfolgen.
